Lead acid is a chemical which is used in batteries; a word which is mostly used in scientific notations and in laboratories. Excessive charging of a lead-acid battery can cause emission of hydrogen and oxygen from each cell, as some water present in the electrolyte moves to the electrodes of the battery. Even if it happens, the valve is designed to vent the gases and thereby normalize the pressure, resulting in acid smell around the battery. However, valves can sometimes fail if dirt accumulates in the device, which may result in pressure building up inside the affected cell.
